Recent Break Ins

Posted by Joe Quigley-Jones 26 Apr 2019

Kindness is a proactive and dynamic thing, the act of reaching out to help others. To be part of something bigger than the sum of its parts. After two break-ins in the space of a week individuals, and businesses have epitomised what #kindness really means to us more than ever. We wont stop in our mission to really feed the world and stop food waste, and seeing the community of Wakefield, West Yorkshire and beyond continually get behind us is so inspiring.

After the initial shock of being burgled once, to have another break in only four days after was disheartening. We were determined to respond with good grace and kindness, and were then able to reopen on Tuesday 23 rd after missing a whole weekend of business.

There are far too many people to thank individually, but we’ll try. Thank you to First Eye Installations for installing a CCTV system. Thank you to 365 Total Security for fitting our burglar alarm. YPO, one of our ‘Friends of’ partners for use of a van. Once again, Tigerlocks – Wakefield have pulled out all the stops to fit a brand new fire door and shutters. MBC Locksmiths Huddersfield helped us after both break-ins after one of our amazing volunteers fundraised to cover the costs. Asda cdc Wakefield hosted us for a fundraiser on Friday, where £274 was raised! Thank you so much to their community champion Lisa for inviting us.

To our volunteers – wow. Thank you to everyone who turned up to completely gut, clean and re-stock the Kindness Sharehouse. It was a grim sight as so much food had been lost after being unable to operate for four days. Now, it looks absolutely incredible and it’s all down to you.

Food waste doesn’t stop just because we stopped temporarily. We are now back with a fully restocked Sharehouse. If you’re still looking for a way to help out, please come down and shop with us to stop food waste. Now is the time to be part of the movement, especially if you’ve never been before. Please help us make sure we don’t have to throw anymore food away and get back to what we do best: FEEDING BELLIES NOT BINS!

To every person that sent a message, left a comment, shared a post or sent a donation: thank you just doesn’t seem to do it justice, but that honestly it’s all we can say. It gave us so much energy and hope when we needed it most. You are all The Real Junk Food Project. #kindnesswins
